Chris and Emma Smith moved to the village from London in 2006 and fell in love with The Lamb while househunting in the area. The Lamb at Satwell, just north of Henley, closed last month when Mr Worrall Thompson's restaurant group folded, citing the economic downturn as its undoing. The Smiths will be joined in their venture by business partner Nick Gross, who previously worked for Marco Pierre White's restaurants and he also set up The Clerkenwell Dining Room and the Devonshire House gastro pub in Chiswick, now a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The Lamb's former manager, Will McCord, and head chef, Lukasz Ostaszewski, have been given their old jobs back. The new team is planning to continue The Lamb's tradition of high-quality dishes at sensible prices, with most main courses around the £10 mark and there will also be a new wine list and an increased emphasis on Chris' passion, real ale. A new menu launches on April 1, but the pub's legendary Sunday lunch will be expanded in choice and available from this weekend. Chris said: "After an outcry from many of the residents of Satwell, Rotherfield Greys and Peppard, the new team is working hard to re-open the pub in time for Mother's Day." The Lamb is now taking reservations on 01491 628482 (answerphone), or via email at info@thelambpub.net. (Thursday) The news comes, after the eatery described as ‘one of the best places to eat in the world' was closed for two weeks following a mystery illness that affected hundreds of diners. The number of possible cases reported to the restaurant has soared since media coverage of the outbreak going back to late January. The thrilled chef said: "I am delighted the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the local Environmental Health Office have given us the all clear to open the restaurant tomorrow.Whilst they are still awaiting outstanding test results we cannot comment further, but obviously we are overjoyed to be able to get back to business as normal." Despite the re-opening investigations into what caused the scare will continue by the HPA. Bacteria samples from customers and members of staff as well as a risk assessment of all food storage space have already been completed. A spokeswoman for the HPA said: "The Agency and local environmental health officers from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead consider it safe to reopen as the Fat Duck management has agreed to comply with all the recommendations made after a thorough risk assessment was carried out by the HPA's Thames Valley Health Protection Unit and the environmental health team. "Preliminary findings from the investigation into what caused around 400 people to report being ill soon after eating at the restaurant have informed the advice given so far, but the investigation is ongoing. So far no one source has been identified. Results of some tests are still awaited and the detailed questioning of people who reported illness is likely to continue for some weeks in order to build a more complete picture. The restaurant will continue to work with the Health Protection Agency and the Royal Borough's environmental health team until the investigation is completed." http://www.windsorobserver.co.uk/news/roundup/articles/2009/03/11/10215-fat-duck-chef-overjoyed-as-restaurant-gets-set-to-reopen/ http://www.windsorobserver.co.uk/news/roundup/articles/2009/03/11/10215-fat-duck-chef-overjoyed-as-restaurant-gets-set-to-reopen/ Wed, 11 Mar 2009 17:00:00 +0000 News
